HOW IT WORKS

Particle size reduction is achieved by directing the raw solids feed into the centre of a vertical access rotor running at 2500-3000 rpm. The material is accelerated horizontally out of the rotor through three peripheral openings into the surrounding grinding chamber. In the grinding chamber the particles are moved by the high kinetic energy imparted by the rotor through a maelstrom of other particles, eventually dropping out through discharge chutes below the mill. Within the grinding chamber the combination of breakage, attrition and grinding caused by the material collisions and interactions in a liquid environment cause rapid particle size reduction.

Because the drive motor is only used to spin the rotor and thus impart kinetic energy to the particles, not to directly drive crushing rollers like some other mills, the WAG Mill® is extremely energy efficient. The 'rock-on-rock' action ensures that for any given rock formation particle size reduction is optimised, and the design of the mill causes rock linings to be built up at key points to protect the main chamber and inside of the rotor body from excessive wear.

Designed specifically for use in a drill cuttings slurrification circuit the WAG Mill® incorporates integral recycle connections which permit slurry and oversize particles from the classification system to be added to the area of maximum attrition via a weir, bypassing the rotor and thus not using any motor power.
